One of the worst habits I've seen in rp is in folk who don't bother reading the content of other's posts, or don't care about what others are doing or where they might be positioned, or are generally insensitive to the rp of others.
Not only does this potentially disrupt play, as then ooc messages might need to be sent to correct the thoughtless post/action, but can lead to the kind of exasperation that pulls the writer out of their immersion in and enjoyment of the scene.
I've already covered the rudeness that is powergaming and twinking, so here I'll focus on a more general sensitivity to what others are doing/typing.
Example 1: Character A walks into a tavern, looking for character B. He sees B present on the list of people there, and without waiting to discover where B is or what he is currently doing, etc, A auto-places B somewhere convenient, and assumes B is ready/willing/available to drop everything and have that conversation/fight/hug/whatever.
Example 2: Character A enters a scene where clearly there is a fight going on. Let's say, a massive tavvie-brawl. A cannot be bothered fighting, as he's there to meet his ic girlfriend. So, instead of responding to the posted fists and fireballs flying all around him, he calmly walks through the middle of it all, sits at a table and orders a drink, proceeding to have that quiet, romantic discussion with his one true love in the midst of what should be a fight for his life.
And then oocly and loudly complains that his rp is being disrupted by the fight.
I could list a whole heap of other examples, but I guess it might be more simply said. The basic message here is: you are not the only person/character in the world, and your char does not exist in a vaccum. Please, try to have some manners toward your fellow players, and act like it.
Comments welcome.
