The chasm held her perfectly still. It was a gaping eye that gazed unblinking back up at Deilakrion, and she returned its gaze in a most fervent fashion. She had found herself here often, when she wasn't running through the forests in wolf form or stubbornly trespassing over fleshy grounds searching for, well, some sort of understanding. But no, her mind was now made up in some sort of cranky determination. She leaned over the corded rails, fingers gripping tight lest some michievous gust f wind tip her over. Down there. There was something -down- there, and she would have it. She backed away from the rail and hurried off.
Kelay Tavern
Deilakrion entered the tavern hesitantly, lips twisting in some troubling thought. She took in the tavern and its occupants, eyes skipping over them with some sort of nervousness. Finally, she cleared her throat and tried her luck. "Uhh. . .are any. . .available for a job?" Her speech was only slightly burred, and her voice could not hope to carry to every corner of the tavern, but she tried in any case. She shifted from foot to foot, and finally tucked her hands behind her back.
Tetsumi lifted her head from the bar, thoughts beginning to race with new plans and ideas. A sly simper curled her lips back as she twisted about in her stool to face the woman pleading for a job, "Curiouser and curiouser..." she muttered under her breath before speak up in a clear straightforward tone, "I believe that I have a job for someone..."
The result was depressing in its lack of effect Certainly she didn't care that most normal people would be too involved with their conversations to pay much heed to her, but certainly they were ignoring her (or perhaps, had not heard her) and so she faced a dilemma. Yet then her keen ears barely caught Tetsumi's proposal, and Deilakrion headed towards the other woman. "No. This creature has a job. This creature needs help." She lapsed into a jagged silence, and eyed the other.
Obraeus said to Deilakrion, "what"
Tetsumi 's simper soon came to a grimace of the sorts, "Well then, I see." almost rudely she turned back around to cut any more conversation short, though she tempted it as she added, "Pity, I pay near a thousand for those willing to aid in my work..."
Deilakrion's scowl deepened at Tetsumi's callous answer, but she perked as she determined another who was, perhaps, speaking to her. With a frown at Tetsumi's back, and a muttered, "No need for money," she herself turned to seek out Obraeus. Once she had neared the dragon, she appraised him with wary eyes. "I desire to climb down the gorge to the east of here. I need supplies and aid."
Obraeus said to Deilakrion, "not to be rude but if you need supplies I have to think you will have need for money. I can't provide anything of that sort, I'm afraid. As for aid...well I'm open to hearing the specifics."
Deilakrion fidgeted at Obraeus's reply, and a flush darkened her cheeks. "This creature. . .has coin." A negligible amount squirrelled away in the Hanging Corpse, assuredly, but coin, "But needs a flesh to carry supplies. And a flesh to buy the supplies. I will pay for supplies." A hint of something approaching embarassment flickered across her features. She had discovered quite a while ago that most shopkeepers would have nothing to do with her.
Obraeus shakes his head "sorry, it's not my type of work." He points across the tavern to Azedeth "try him. Word is he's lookin' for jobs, and from the little i've seen he appears a right sort...at least enough to suit your needs..."
Deilakrion sighed, shoulders slumping, and turned to look at where Obraeus pointed. "If you reconsider. . ." she let those words trail from her lips, and then she was turning. She traipsed across the tavern once more, until she stood a short distance from Azedeth. She was loathe to interrupt fleshy things, but impatience had taken her into its grip. "Flesh." She said pointedly in an effort to gain his attention.
Azadeth goes back to happily ignoring Tetsumi and shifts his attention to the one addressing him as 'Flesh'. "Ey? What do you want?"
Deilakrion straightened in supple eagerness, and nodded to herself as she redressed her previous plea to Azadeth: "I need help."
Azadeth nods, "So does alot of people... What do you need me to do for you? It could cost you."
Deilakrion glowered at Azadeth and mumbled certain things under her breath that ended with: "Will pay." It was said sullenly, and in such a way that might suggest the woman to be frugal. She tucked her chin and stared openly at the elf. "I will go to the gorge," and here she pointed in a vaguely eastern direction, "and climb down it. This creature needs help. Supplies, a flesh to carry, and support for the climb down."
Azadeth shakes his head, not very interested. "I'd love to help, but I've got many things to do today that are a bit more important. Now if you'll excuse me..." The elf tosses yet another cookie at Tetsumi before gathering his few belongings and exiting the tavern.
Deilakrion watched the elf go with something resembling disbelief, and she shook her head to herself in dejection. She muttered something vaguely angry-sounding, and took a fresh look around the tavern. She raised her voice. "Any desire a job?"
An impressive silence (figuratively speaking) was the only response Deilakrion garnered. A tic jumped in the region of her eye, and she sucked in a breath through clenched teeth and released it. Her mind was working as she debated scenarios in her head, and finally she clenched her fists and moved to exit the tavern. She would try her luck elsewhere.
Xalious Mines
Deilakrion entered the area slowly, feet scraping over the rock with delicacy. Her eyes adjusted to the dim light of the mines, and she took in a breath as she looked about for miners. "Any in here desire a job?" She had raised her voice to be heard, and it echoed back at her as if in mockery.
None responded to her question, and her face pinched as she moved further in to seek better luck.
Deilakrion moved further into the cave complex, blinking as her eyes adjusted further to the dim light. She took in a breath and expelled it, coughing, before raising her voice. "Any in here desire a job?" Her voice echoed back at her, muffled, and she looked around the miners whilst biting her lower lip.
Sairalinde looked up from her spot along the far wall, she studied the person who spoke for a moment, "What kind of job?"
Deilakrion's eyes lit upon Sairalinde's form, and she moved closer to the woman's voice. Once she had approached enough that she could lower her voice, Deilakrion spoke quickly to the other. "I am taking a . . .trip of sorts. The chasm near . . .Cenril," she spoke the city's name as if with distaste, "I desire to travel its depths. This creature needs a flesh to carry and buy supplies. I will pay for supplies. It will be a long climb." She sighed after speaking -- the words clearly haven been spoken many times before.
Sairalinde met the Lycan's gaze. Her jaw tight, her shoulders squared. Shaking her head, she sighed. "I only pass through Cenril to go to the bank. I spend no more time there than I feel I must. I'm sorry, but you'll have to find someone else."
Deilakrion growled in exasperation, and shook her head. "Any else want a job?" She called half-heartedly, turning away from the half-elf.
Deilakrion walked from the cave as though she had expected no response. She seemed irritated.
Overlooking Gorge
After a brief dip into the Hanging Corpse Tavern, yielding no new results, Deilakrion paused near the gorge on her way back. She eyed its quiescent depths, and determination hardened her eyes and straightened her back. She was good at climbing, and she knew that, but the sheer walls of the place meant that she could not go this trial alone. Not to mention most merchants pretended she didn't exist. She'd tried a few businesses around Vailkrin, and the results were rather depressing. She would hang around in the Kelay Tavern until she was driven out from frustration. After that, well, she'd kidnap a flesh if she had to. And with that thought in mind, she set out.
Kelay Tavern
Dejected, determined, and heartily stubborn: Deilakrion entered the tavern with something of a fierce light in her eyes. She saw a few new faces since her last entry, and took a breath to raise her voice. "Any desire a job?" It cut through the worst of the tavern noise, but she knew her voice would not reach all ears. Still, well, she wasn't yet desperate enough to wander from patron to patron.
Talisia said to Deilakrion, "I desire a job, as long as I am able to do it."
Deilakrion nodded to herself and picked her way closer to Talisia. Once she was in easy reach of the high elf, Deilakrion eyed the other dubiously. "I need a flesh for climbing. And carrying supplies."
Talisia nods and says "I am able to do such tasks."
Alicia tries to focus on Deilakrion, the brandy taking it's toll. "I'm trying to get stuff, stoff,um staff. Bloody hard, no mahter wotcha pay."
The first traces of a smile hovered about the lycan's mouth as she blew out a sigh of relief. She took a step closer to Talisia, and tilted her head. "I aim to climb down the gorge near Cenril. Are you up for such a task?"
Talisia said to Deilakrion, "Yes I am."
Deilakrion did not notice Alicia as she focused intently upon Talisia. A full smile blossomed over her features, and satisfaction leaked from her in waves. "Good. Excellent." She looked around the tavern, and blinked at a distant thought. "Do you know where the Hanging Corpse is?"
Talisia nods her head and says, "Yes I used to sing in that tavern."
Deilakrion tapped a finger upon her chin. "Right. Meet me there. I will follow shortly." Deilakrion said to Talisia.
Deilakrion lifted her voice in a strong bellow; apparently she had been buoyed by success. "I will need one more for my task. Any takers?"
Audrielle raised a brow toward the present woman... seeing as she was already standing before her table. "I suppose it would depend upon what is being asked."
Deilakrion looked upon Audrielle as if surprised. She -had- been focusing hard upon Talisia, 'twould seem. "Did you hear what I said to the other woman?"
Audrielle tapped her head momentarily, attempting to recall the words. "Umm... yes. You require a flesh for climbing and carrying supplies." She paused again, then nodded. "Aye. You aim to climb down that gorge. I aim to see the bottom of it myself, actually... which is why I ask what you need." She paused, then looked to Alicia. "If... my lovely mate doesn't mind me taking a short trip?"
Deilakrion nodded curtly. "Meet me at the Hanging Corpse."
Hanging Corpse
Talisia said to Deilakrion, "I am seeing if a friend of mine might be interested in this venture if that is alright. You seemed to be looking for more people for this task."
Deilakrion entered the tavern and headed straight to the bar, where she disappeared behind it for a brief space of time. She reappeared with small bags of coins, and held these tightly as she searched for Talisia. Once she saw the other, she approached. "This creature will need the flesh to get supplies." here she handed the woman a bag of coins. "Here are a few coins in advance." And another bag. She looked around the quiet tavern, and muttered, "More. Yes."
The woman was simply standing and staring at the flames in the hearth, her black-scaled, horned, clawwed, and winged sillouhette perhaps a bit out of place in such a building as this...especially what with her standing at a good 6'7. She doesn't say a word as voices sound around her, and she barely even moves; her tail simply sways this way and that before coiling loosely about her feet.
Talisia nods to Deilakrion and heads out of the tavern to fetch supplies and another.
Deilakrion looked to the door as Audrielle entered. She tossed the woman two small sacks of coins, as she had with Talisia. "You. Get satchells that may be strapped comfortably to our backs, capable of holding many supplies. Also find hammocks, if you can."
Deilakrion turned and disappeared into the kitchens. She was determined to score some food.
