I am becoming really aggravated by the attitudes of others. "It's just a game." I see that a lot. "We're just having fun." I see that a lot too. Both of those are true, however, it gives no fucking excuse to being rude or inconsiderate. Despite both of those, you are involved in a SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT. I don't care if you never see your fellow players face to face. It isn't an excuse to start sniping at others. And for the record, I really hate vulgar, insulting or otherwise mean things said followed by the ever-lovely excuse: "I was just kidding!" Yeah. Fuck you.
From little things to big things, having a big bad attitude is becoming the new chic, the new cool, the new way to being apart of the 'popular' kids. Yeah, it really isn't that cool. It's inconsiderate. For the record, when I see someone being mean to another person, I do remember that. Sometimes, I make a point to reflect that snideness back at the originating player. It doesn't really make me much better, but I at least hope it allows that person to realize how it feels to be the recipient.
What's worse, I am not pleased to say that this includes members within the Cabal. I've caught myself in it. I've seen many Caballers trading jokes and being. . .well, rude. It's easy to get sucked into it. And to be fair, there is a certain level of ranting that we all need to do to get it out of our systems. That's normal, and I can understand that. But when it starts getting to the point of personal attacks when the rant is over -- yeah, not so okay. It really isn't awesome to be mean to people you perceive as 'lesser'.
Just because you're behind an avatar is absolutely no excuse to acting in such a way. For that matter, holier-than-thou isn't a particularly great way of being a good player either.
I feel rather like a hypocrite because today I asked Cabal hopefuls to be polite, respectful and have good rp manners. Let's all be exemplary. Please.
(and can we keep inappropriate innuendos off the game? I mean, really.)
