In the forests above Vailkrin, one might hear the uprised cry of the wolf. Whether singly or in a pack, their presence -- much like their voices -- are there. They have claimed that land and forest as their own, and they rarely suffer trespassers. They are lycan wolves, banded together for a common cause; a common goal: survival. It's a hard world out there, and without support, lone wolves are prone to being picked off. Would you dare to be a wolf?
Do you?
They are calling, and their summons will not be denied.
Hey all, and welcome to the spot for the Vailkrin Wolf Pack, home to the Vailkrin lycans. They make their territory in the dark forest to the northwest of Vailkrin, and are structured specifically around wolfy behaviors. Right now, we're still getting everything set up completely, but here you'll find the basic outline for our intentions and future plans, as well as some generic information on expected IC behaviors when in the wolf pack. If you're interested, read on!
Requirements
In order to assure ourselves that we have a functioning pack, we will be picky over who gets let in. We look for responsible players who aren't afraid to let their characters take a beating, and characters who will be okay with following orders and submitting to pack structure. Good writing is a definite plus. The character will need an ic reason to join the pack, which we may or may not be able to assist with. We can have a character turned who is not a lycan, but be aware that any race-specific traits will be nullified or strongly reduced by the lycan curse. No ubers here, please.
Lycans are not on top of the power structure as far as race goes, and we expect members to realize and accept that. If you want your character to be super strong, go get him or her bitten by a vamp. However, this is why we're making a pack. Lycans in a pack are stronger than individuals, and there is always the threat of the pack if your character is in a tight spot.
OOCly, drama is not acceptable or tolerable. If you are upset that your character is not alpha or whatever, do not whine about it. The structure is set up for a reason, and if your character is unfit for that structure he or she will either be removed or beaten into proper position.
So please understand and accept this before moving further.
Pack Structure
We are modeling the pack structure after wolves, which is based off of aggressiveness level and fighting ability. Top on down:
Alpha male/female
Beta
Aggressive pack wolves
Submissive pack wolves
Omega
Alpha male/female: These two wolves lead the pack, but usually it is the male who is the most dominant. Alpha wolves have a high level of responsibility. They make sure members are fed, have a place to live, and don't have any problems. They make sure pack wolves aren't starting unnecessary fights, are within territorial bounds, and make sure each wolf is in his or her proper place. They will beat lesser members if such members step out of line. They are the strongest and wisest wolves in the pack. These two wolves do not necessarily need to be mated; however, any mates taken outside of the alpha position will be regulated to Aggressive/submissive pack wolves and the opposite gender alpha might take a disliking to such a wolf. Pack structure will be maintained. This position is determined by a fight.
Beta: There is usually only one beta, but we might have more than one depending on pack size. If so, they will be ranked according to aggressiveness and fighting ability; there won't be any uncertainty as to who is second, third etc etc. This position is typically given by alpha preference.
Aggressive pack wolves: These are wolves in the pack who are aggressive to some extent. They are ranked as well, so that all know who is more in charge. These positions are fluid, depending on the members' interactions with eachother. This group is capable of challenging the alpha.
Submissive pack wolves: These are wolves in the pack who would rather tuck tail than fight a pack member. They are naturally submissive, and as such are not in line for ruling over the pack. They are ranked on least submissive to most.
Omega: (8/25/08 change)
On the flip side, I've decided to make this position the pack healer. I have no desire in any way for lycanthrope wolves to have the normal wolf's position of omega (which is basically the wolf everyone beats on), and instead this wolf will be responsible for keeping the pack in tip-top shape. As such, they will be someone outside the pecking order of the pack and will be responsible in that way only to the alphas. However, because of this oddity this wolf will be expected to be loyal. Any betrayal to the pack is felt more strongly from the omega to the other 'wolves, and they will be strong in response.
Lycan Behavior
We understand that a lot of lycan behaviors in the game are subjective, but for the sake of continuity we would like members of the Vailkrin pack to adhere to a few loose guidelines. (please note that these are subject to change)
Shifting: 5-10 minutes worth of time with varying degrees of pain. Less time if in a huge rush, more time if under duress.
Silver Poisoning: A reaction (think metal allergies) when on the skin. Strong to severe reaction when entering the bloodstream. Due to the fact that lycans are already not very powerful, we don't want the reaction to be too strong. Checks and balances.
Lycan abilities: Quick self-healing, super strength, higher agility and speed. These can vary a little from person to person, but it would make more sense for males to be stronger and females to be faster.
Behavior: Some emotional impact will remain from when the person was not a lycan, but when the person gets the addition of a wolfy attitude, some things change. Determine how aggressive or submissive your character's wolf is. Understand that no matter how aggressive, most wolves will not challenge the alpha, as it weakens the pack. Most wolf packs (and I'd imagine lycan packs too) do not change leaders in a matter of years. So we will not let pack members challenge the alpha unless in extreme circumstances or at an alloted time, like once every couple of months. In order for the pack to work, not everyone gets to lead. If your character is unable to act in that manner, then perhaps you might consider keeping him or her as a rogue lycan.
Pack Extras
Due to the fact that the Vailkrin pack will not be a clan, we're going to (eventually) get pack items. Alphas will get an Alpha Aura, and pack members will likely get some form of arm/leg band with the pack's symbol on it. Speaking of which, we will also have a pack symbol. The Vailkrin pack will also have an IC name that will be voted on by members at a later date.
Also, due to the fact that members will be under alpha protection, they will be less susceptible to mental attacks, such as illusion or otherwise.
Other
I might eventually put a faq up, if we receive enough interest. For now, if you have any questions please put them here, send me a pm, email or hmail.
