I once had The Eldritch Cabal jokingly described to me as "Hollow's mobile mental hospital", which to be completely honest, isn't all that far from the truth. xD
This is not only a consequence of the clan's IC leader having an inherently high tolerance for the strange and unusual, or because the clan itself intends or requires members to play eccentric characters, but is more a consequence of what happens when a bunch of friendly and highly creative people get together to roleplay in a fantasy setting.
IC-ly, Cabal is simply that loose gathering of people Tenebrae has 'adopted' as a kind of odd and erstwhile 'family', people who prove useful to her in a business sense or that she cares about personally-- but above all, they are people she trusts to be at her back and that of other members in a moment of crisis (of which there's always plenty ).
OOC HISTORY
The Eldritch Cabal was formed in early 2006 (I think? or late 2005-- iunno, I have the memory of a goldfish), with the intent of:
1/ providing a place to gather people who cared about quality story-based roleplay, and had good roleplay standards and principles,
2/ changing the face of roleplay in Hollow as it currently was (this being at least 70% of public rp occurring in the Kelay Tav, or one space outside it, monthly 'wars' and duelling being considered the highest form of writing art at the time, and so on) by supporting longer-range storyline rp and setting a new standard of excellence in that area,
3/ proving a clan for people who wanted a highly interactive, group-rp experience,
4/ providing a long-term, ongoing plot/RP backdrop for members and associated non-members alike to participate in, if they wished.
I think we have about achieved everything we initially set out to do, at least as best we can so far, and just want to say here that I am so, so proud of all current and past members, and everything they are and have done. Kudos to you all, Cabal would be nothing without you.
NOTE: Please see the "Cabal Storyline" thread for further IC information on the ongoing clan RP.

-- CLAN MISSION STATEMENT --
Apart from our original goals, nothing much to add.
Every member of Cabal is important to us, and every member brings a creative element of their own to Cabal, enriching not only the clan's own rp but that of all members they interact with.
Any member can ask for clan time to help in developing their character's story, but this is not a requirement by any means.
Many members play highly individual characters who do not necessarily -wish- to be interactive all the time, and not ALL members are even required to know each other well, or at all in some cases. In fact, Tene tends to take in the 'strays', the ones who do not fit in anywhere else in any close sense, and give them a home (whether they really want one or not, in some cases, hee). So that they are a 'loose' gathering is only to be expected.
-- CLAN REQUIREMENTS--
The Eldritch Cabal is not a "buddy-club".
Though there are some members who are oocly friendly with others not all are so inclined, by any means. Many desire no ooc contact at all, or as little as possible, and this is of course respected.
OOC friendships are NOT, therefore a factor in membership consideration. Just because your IC or OOC boyfriend/best friend/rp buddy is in Cabal does not give you a greater chance of being so-- each person is considered on their own merit.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE "UBER" to join Cabal -- this is a sadly popular misperception created by butthurt idjits. In fact, we accept members at ALL levels of experience, and of writing skill, and always have.
The ability to write prettily, whilst enjoyed, will always come second to someone being a GOOD PERSON TO ROLEPLAY WITH.
On the whole, membership is offered/accepted by those who have shown player behaviours toward others that we (as a group of players) deem as not only acceptable but desirable. These include, but are not limited to, the following (I will be adding to this soonish, these are brief outlines only):
-- The ability to keep IC and OOC as separate as possible and be a good player to rp with.
* Players who are known for not being able to separate IC and OOC, or who like to throw hissy fits at members when things aren't to their exact liking, or who are selfish players, god-modders, act like spoiled divas, are oocly unpleasant to deal with, who are nasty or bitchy to people for no good reason, or whatever-it-means- to be not someone I'd like to inflict on my clan -- well, they just don't get in.
*Incessantly nagging Tenebrae or any other member, ICly or OOCly, is a great way to NOT become a member.
--An understanding of, or willingness to develop, good roleplay manners. Things like:
--actually reading other people's posts, and taking what they are doing into consideration in your own
-- waiting to see what other people are doing before you post to them, not auto-placing people wherever it is YOU want them to be (i.e., saying they are at the bar or sitting down or wherever, when they have made no such post in your presence to indicate where they are).
-- asking before rp'ing in tells (many members don't do this, as it's not considered by all to be 'good rp').
-- not having to be the hero/saviour/uberpwnall winner of every single encounter, being able to rp limitations, damage, and not rushing in to "insta-save" or "insta-cure" every problem your char sees. Some people LIKE to rp that thier char is in danger or hurt, it furthers the rp experience for many.
-- To sum it up, basic common sense and respect for other people. So yeah, have a look at the threads on RP behaviour in the "RP Hints and Tips" section here, there's a pile of info on rp manners there.
-- The ability to be an unselfish player, with a willingness to help other players develop their character's storylines.
--A sense of fun and adventure, and the ability to create and participate in rp that is fun for, and benefits, others.
-- A preferance for long-term and broad-range roleplay [/i]
-- rather than merely gathering for wars or parties, for example.
-- The ability to communicate with other members OOCLY where necessary in a friendly, polite manner; as well as a certain maturity of player outlook.
Our catchphrase of late, concerning 'how to get into Cabal' has been along the lines of the following:
"When you have interacted with the clan enough that we forget you are not Cabal and try to speak with you on clanchat, you can assume membership is a given, if desired."
In our clan-only forum segment, we have a thread where members are invited to post the names of characters with whom they have enjoyed roleplaying, or are felt are potentially people we'd like to interact with on a frequent basis, and get involved with in-game, which is taken into consideration.
--CLAN IC REQUIREMENTS--
Tene tends to want people around her who are loyal, individual, and above all USEFUL to her or her clan in some way.
Please NOTE: This thread is an ongoing, rambling thing that I will add to and change for the next couple of weeks, when I get a moment to do so. So this-all is not finished yet, and likely will not be for some time. =P
