Ok, this is something that's been bugging me for a while:
There's kind of a dichotomy in my roleplay, where I try to rp my char with feasible limits as to her personal power and magic, because I enjoy allowing her to be vulnerable. IMO, this facilitates a much wider range of rp choices, and most of the people I enjoy playing with do the same.
How, then, do I cope with those people who like to rp as immortal-like and godly, with 94856 super-powers at thier command and god-given weapons, when they wander into the tav and demand a duel, or worse, force themselves into an existing rp and demand I defend my pub, clan, etc, or they'll continue harassing everyone?
I'm not talking noobish idjits here, I mean players who have at least -some- rp effort in to gaining these powers, making thier chars unassailable except via some secret knowledge or special weapons, or just so vastly multi-skilled or godly, nobody has a hope of realistically playing a fight against them.
Unless they, too, have superuberpwrz. Which I do not want, because frankly I think it's not terrific rp.
I have been told once or twice that I have no -right- to play my char as a prominent character unless I am willing to defend the position. Fair enough. But what gives others the right to simply -keep accumulating- power after power after power, until fighting them is -- if you wish to be realistic at all-- entirely pointless? Or skills that are so vastly complex they require a wiki to themselves to understand?
But is it fair to ask her to have to defend it against a single individual with a Sword-of Mega-pwnall AND lightning bolts and fire out the arse AND the power to conjure a billion npc's AND etc etc?
What about guy who expected ALL vampires to lie down and die because he weilded Holy Light and shone a bit about, and screamed that the wiki backed his rp up? --which it does-- and then yelled at those players who had rp'd thier chars less vulnerable to Holy Light, saying we had no right to do so BECAUSE THE WIKI SAYS SO.
Do we lie down and die? Do 12 players have to hide in the cellar every time this fool walks into the room? What if he follows us around?
Should I refuse a fight? Ask em to put down all thier ubermagickal stuff and fistfight?
Or should I give in, compromise my enjoyment of my char to rp ridiculous pw0rz so I can pull them out my behind when needed?
And really, I guess what I'm asking is:
How uber is TOO uber???
And so's it's not all about me-- What is the point of playing a human master-swordsman, or such, who's required to fight against someone who may (or may not have) rp'd themselves as a vampiric or 50-foot shapeshifting dragon mega-mage with power over metals and the weather, and has armour that sprouts 8-foot spikes on contact.. and...
Does the human char like.. automatically lose? If not.. why the hell not? No matter -how- prettily he writes, fact remains he's just a puny human with a sword.
Is the sum worth of any rp strength how well you type in a duel, or how hard you yell in oocly says that you have the right to rp the way you want, uber or no?
I am just trying to find a way to keep rp'ing with people who for whatever reason cannot allow thier chars to have reasonably realistic limits.
I probably have not expressed this well, because I hab a dasty code id by dose atm.
But your opinion will help me, so thanks in advance.
