First Mate's Log
Entry One
I have been instructed to keep this log of the progress of the ship Eternity, once captained by the lycan Leo, now designated to me, First Mate Isen, by Tenebrae. The first order of business is to repair the ship, make her seaworthy. She has sat in the cove for far too long. As I walked onto the upper deck, I noticed that there are a good many timbers that must be renewed, as they are warped by wind and rain. The sails, too, must be replaced, and perhaps a bit of the rigging, too. The ropes look quite worn. Perhaps not as vital, but no less important, we must find a new flag, as the old one is faded to more of a dark brown, rather than the black. Also, the decks are in need of a good cleaning, and perhaps a bit of decorative painting should be done, to add to the appearance. There seems to be a rat problem, as well. Going below, I found chaos. Nothing too bad, structurally, but the captains personal things are strewn all about; every movable object is in a state of disarray. Must remember to ask Tenebrae about what to do here. Oh, well...I can at least get some of the basic cleaning done, and a count of the boards and such needing replacement.
An update: We will need twelve new boards: two on the forward port, three on starboard. The next four are split evenly on either side, in the back. The other three are to be used to replace a portion of the deck, which seems to have been affected more than the rest.

Entry Two
Basic cleaning of the decks, and some semblence of order belowdecks took a couple hours, but it seems to me to look much better. I must set about buying lighter clothing, for working in the sun... After the cleaning, I went into Rynvale to place the orders for the boards and sails. The specific hue of the cloth cost a pretty penny, but it was not too much trouble. The boards were already in the shop, so I was able to carry them back at once, with the aid of a few workers. I had them leave them a good distance away, so that they would not be able to see what ship I was buying them for. I carried them in one by one, though. The sails will be ready withing a few days. As evening is drawing near, I suppose it is time for me to mosey on down to the taverns. I'll try Rynvale first, and hope that they have forgotten me. If there's no luck there, Cenril should have some good men to offer.

Entry Three
Rynvale was an utter failure. After purchasing some decent clothes, I went to the tavern. I bought a few drinks, talked to a few sailors, and I got the feeling that some of them recognized me. I left before things got too out of hand. In Cenril, though, I went to the Whaler's bar...plenty of people there. I spoke to one or two, and found someone quite capable of replacing the boards, and other such things. He'll do until a proper ship's carpenter can be hired. Another was able to refresh my memory on knot-work, and even teach me some more. I'll likely hire him to aid me with the sails and rigging. Now, on to Kelay...perhaps I'll meet up with this Trey character, whom Tenebrae recommended to me. I have a thought as to the medic, but that leaves plenty of positions open, not to mention the need for strong fighting men, to make our...excursions successful.

Entry Four
The sailor from Cenril, his name being Alexei, arrived today, and changed out the faulty boards. That damned rat showed up again...he is one quick little bugger. I'll get him, though. The sails will be ready later this afternoon; I paid them well for expedience. Last night, whilst lounging about the tavern, I managed to pick up a sturdy crewman, who said that he will speak to some friends of his. Still need to fill some of the more important positions, most especially the boatswain, as I will soon have a crew that will need controlling. Must remember to find Eyren, and speak to her about being our healer. Damn it all, that rat is back.

Entry Five
He escaped. Again. Picked up the sails, and brought them on board. As I write this, Alexei and the other Cenril sailor, Aelian, together with Rahim and his friends (the man from last night) are installing them. I will save the old sails, tattered as they are...they might still have some use. The ship looks much better, already; the new sail definitely added. Tenebrae requested that the flag remain, as a symbol of the past, or some such. So, it will. I seem to have acquired a new liking for the ocean. I find myself rushing about, as if I could sail without crew. Something about the waves call to me...it is almost as though I can see figures moving beneath them, people, of sorts. But, I digress. The least I can do while the men finish is rid myself of this infestation.

Entry Six
The ship is resplendent, I must say. There is something about the new sails that makes me proud. Perhaps it is the fact that the Eternity is seaworthy once more. Now I just have to fill up the crew, set some rules, and we will be ready to sail. Tonight, I intend to break into the harbor master's office...both the one in Rynvale, and in Cenril. I will be able to make a rough copy of the shipping routes, and maybe I'll find some precious cargo...that would be one hell of a first haul. Though, Tenebrae might already have an idea. Will talk to her first. But, I'll still break in tonight, then afterwards hit the taverns again. In the morning, I'll see about supplies.

Entry Seven
The break-in was a great success...the offices have obviously grown lax, as far as security goes. I doubt if they'll even notice a thing tomorrow morning. No cargoes of note are sailing any time soon, but I now know the commonly used trade routes. They had a slew of numbers and things that made no sense to me, though I'd assume that they are for navigation. I'll have to be sure to get a navigator that knows them, or at least someone who can teach me. I write this from the lower deck of the ship; I have taken to sleeping here, to prevent intruders. Pieces of the old sail made for an excellent door covering for the 'cabin'. Captain Leo's personal effects I leave as they are...I'll wait for specific instructions on what to do with them. But I have been reading some of his old charts and maps. Quite educational. I'll have to take the Eternity out to find some of that treasure from the maps... I have the small crew already recruited looking for their friends and former shipmates, to speed the hiring process. Of course, I speak to each of them individually, and have had to reject quite a number. Despite that, though, I've made good progress. Still looking for officer positions, though. Trey has yet to make an appearance. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Alexei had fixed up the prow...he had sanded and carved at the wooden figure, making the design a bit more pronounced. On another note, I spent a good hour stalking that damned rat...I get the feeling that he is toying with me. Or the sun is getting to me. I think that is likely, as I still hear the voices of the waves.

Entry Eight
I recruited our navigator tonight. Elf by the name of Dallon the Blue. Says he knows the stars very well, and also said something about building portals for the ship. We will see about that later. I will swear him in tomorrow evening. Also, must talk to Eyren tomorrow, and also that avian, Arysel. I think she'd do well on the ship. The basic crew is nearly full; I have recruited a good twenty. I've restocked the water and rum barrels, and have orders for food ready to go, when needed.

Entry Nine
I spoke to Arysel, and she agreed to be our lookout. I met both her and Dallon aboard the ship, and swore them in with a blood oath. That took place early this afternoon. Then, after spending some time recruiting more of Alexsei's friends, I returned to the ship. There, I met with Eyren, and swore her in as the ship's medic. Only a couple more hands, and we'll have a full crew.

Entry Ten
The Eternity is ready to cast off. Supplies have been purchased, enough for a good month at sea. Any more, and the food would begin to spoil. I have procured limes, as the sailors have assured me that they are needed to combat some disease that afflicts the teeth while at sea. I have brought on plenty of alcohol, to keep the crew happy, and gathered all the officers. As soon as Tenebrae arrives, we will depart.

Entry Eleven
We made our first voyage today. It went as well as I could have hoped. The ship behaved, the crew worked well together. Tenebrae seems to have settled her dispute with Roussai, as he appeared on the deck. Damn avians and their wings. As the two of them discussed their business, I went below to check for leaks. Nothing out of the ordinary; the ships seems as watertight as any. I went back up, and took her back to the cove, as a storm seemed imminent. We made it in just fine, and settled the ship back where she was before. Tenebrae headed off for a bath, and I stayed with the ship. Later we are to meet to discuss chart, routes, and raids.
