Just a bit of background on our main plot:
The Eldritch Cabal has its own ongoing plot, which concerns a group of disincarnate and powerful Dark mages known as the Chaos-Lords. Their plan is to 'unravel' all of Creation and bring the Universe back to a state of primal Chaos.
Their representative in the 'real' world is Eldritch, who can still semi-manifest if fed enough of the darknesses or 'sins' existing in a soul.
Tenebrae is his 'chosen one' - a natural sineater capable of collecting the Darkness he needs to manifest. Not only that, she's a necromancer, and so can draw evils from the dead as well, and a vampire, which engenders its own 'sins'. Tenebrae escaped Eldritch 200 years before she came to Kelay.
Through manipulation of Tene and the people around her, Eldritch has tricked her into building a warped atrocity of a building she calls 'the fortress', designed as the clan HQ but made uninhabitable by his presence there, as well as the Obsidian Pool.
The Pool looks like black water, but is actually the body of a Chaos-Lord, warped beyond any kind of real physical form. The Pool had strange and horrible properties, but can grant wishes, of a sort, and always exacts a steep price. (There have been some excellent rp's around this pool, which can be read in the thread on the roleplay board.)
What the Pool is doing is gathering energies to feed Eldritch, so he can continue remaining in the physical world and carrying out his evil plan. This plan includes six artifacts, 'weapons' created by all of the Lords (except the Pool, who's a bit of a blob, mind-wise).
Originally, there were to be seven weapons, but as the Pool could not create one, Eldritch 'made' Tene instead (he gave her necromancy and vampirism, on top of her sineating).
Tene was imprisoned in the Chaos-realms not long after the HQ was built- she met a gnome called Aglebod, who seemed very untrustworthy but told her a pile of information about the Chaos-Lords and thier plan. Over time, she came to trust him, and he helped her 'escape'. What Tene to this day doesn't know is that it was all a set-up.
Aglebod told her the weapons were to be used to destroy Eldritch & co. Of course, they aren't. When all six artifacts and Tene are brought together, and the central weapon is used correctly, the fabric of the world will begin to dissolve, and not stop til nothing, not Gods nor people not the Lords themselves, exist.
Each weapon is to have its own quest. Recently, one of them was recovered, in the Underdark. The location of the next quest will be revealed soon.
Also, there are 'real' weapons against the Lords- shards from the shattered heart of the first star ever born to the Universe. 25 in number, they will come into play soon, and will involve small groups of 'Shard-Keepers'. The full significance of the shards won't be revealed for a while but they'll manifest certain useful powers anyhow, as do the Chaos artifacts.
Anyone can go on these quests, but the weapons-holders are meant to be responsible and dedicated players, who won't "lose" the weapon (they bond to the holder, symbiotically) or disrespect the rp in general.
Likely, this plot will continue another year or so, at the end of which the unravelling MUST be thwarted.
In that year, there will be five more quests. Hopefully these can be incorporated into other other rp's being run, rather than acting as competition for a limited number of active players (Terra's Island, for example).
I'm hoping to get Eldritch, Aglebod, The Pool (it might get its form back) and maybe the other Lords played as chars, as well as some admin support in organising/co-organising quests.
I'm hoping to request that this plot go global, so the quests can become large-scale, especially the Shards. Hoping that we can play the land becoming more 'Chaotic' - (NOT necessarily 'evil') as more artifacts emerge. in which case the shards will be needed to provide Balance. Help with the plot/ideas/rp/ anything is always welcome, as are folk wanting to tie in plots to this one, in some way.
Other Cabal-related rp:
The Hanging Corpse is a huge success, and is the hang-out of a lot of great roleplayers, as well as the scene of some marvellous rp's.
And of course, there's Eternity.
Cap'n Leo seeks an able crew, for high adventures and pirating on the Cabal flagship.
***Apart from member's individual character-stories (some of which involve a number of other players), Cabal is also deeply involved in Vuryal's Dragon-Killing plot (see that thread).
Really, I'd rather let folk find out how icly. But it's safe to say there's a lot of double-crossing going on.
*** Cabal are also planning to make Vailkrin the 'Capital of Crime' in Hollow, and are sneakily re-building the city (or plan to, with admin approval, cross fingers for us) with a series of tunnels under it, as well as walkways between buildings.
***a smuggling ring operating in Cenril is rumoured to be Cabal-related. This rp is still in planning stages, discussion welcome.
***Too, they plan a casino (latest from Vgfh is that we have to wait for the next Hollow update-thing for actual roulette wheels and other automated games *SIGH*) and a cabaret upstairs.
***Tene is also reviving the King of the Vampires plot.
***She also wants to heal Venturil, using druids (an rp put off this week due to my own health, which is on the up again).
*phew* I'm sure I have forgotten a couple... anyhows, participation/help is always welcome. There's some great opportunities/idea here, and all of them can be played in conjunction with other ongoing rp's, or most.
