Lucien's Most Excellent Life Story: Chapter 1
Once upon a time there was this vampire.. Joliette Frances Xaviera Thorne. Or Tenebrae, the Darkness, as she'd come to be known. Tene to her friends. And/or the people she ate, which were sometimes the same thing.
Tene was born a sineater. This made her very attractive as a potential thrall for the Lords of Chaos, an ancient faction of seven dark mages who thousands of years before had grown so chaotic that they warped themselves out of reality altogether.
They thought this was grand - until they realised that they were gonna find it hard to destroy All of Creation from the black hole of a dimension they'd vanished into.
So. They knitted together an elaborate plot to leak a bit of themselves back into the world at large, and sacrificed several of themselves to do so. They were still stuck out there, in neverland, but tiny bits of thier power could seep into the world, causing havoc wherever they went.
One became Eldritch, whose shadow would lead a clan of insane vampires and seek out the sineater. He made her first a Necromancer, then a Vampire. Combined with her natural talent, little Joliette would become the Unmaker, the key which would allow the Chaos Lords back into the world just long enough to destroy it, and all of Creation, and finally themselves - so pure Chaos would once more reign.
One became the Obsidian Pool - the story of which is recorded in great detail, elsewhere. Suffice to say it was a liquid madhouse trap set up specially for Tene, who by her own cleverness had managed to escape the clutches of Eldritch and set out on her own.
And one became the Labyrinth, who we are gonna talk about a little bit later on.
After her escape, Tene came to Kelay and met a god, was betrayed by said god, met a drow, lost a drow, met another drow.....
Back up a little here - when she was betrayed by the demi-god Laethalion, Tene was so pissed that she summoned dark and demonic beings who were actually -- surprise -- agents of the Chaos Lords. They totally blew up Laethalions's favourite love nest, leaving in its place this weird fortress...
Yeah, that'd be the same one infested by Eldritch and the Obsidian Pool. Dun dun dunnnn....
Anyway. Some time after that, Tene was dating this drow prince named Castellian, when she met a scruffy sonofabitch pirate - which would be Leoxander. It took the seafarin' cad a year to pry her out of Caste's hands, but by gum he did it. And ended up with Caste's ship too. Man, that poor guy was so owned.
So yeah - before Leo could do all that, Tene and Caste and Leo and a pile of other folks fell into the Obsidian Pool. This was no theme park fun ride for any of them.
Tene and Caste were sucked into an illusion that ran for eight years (Pool-time, so like, a week of real-world time - Chaos is a bitch that way). In that illusion, Tene had a baby to Castellian and they happily lived a lifetime there, and raised the baby into a fine son.
And that good-lookin' example of Chaos-brewed dhampiric pool-spawn would be named..... Lucien.
Rewind a bit now: Tene and Leo had already by this stage been gettin' it on for some time. And this wasn't the first time they'd been in the Fortress... I am so not going into any details here, but there was this one night - chicka bow bow - during which Tene had a real nice time and Leo had this strange kind of premonition of what he'd later become.
So yeah. Back to the story...
In the end, the whole lot of 'em - Tene, Caste, Leo and the rest - managed to escape the Pool. Except for poor Lucien, who was totally left behind, since he wasn't actually real or anything.
Or was he? Dun, dun, dunnnnnn........
Fast forward a bit, now:
Leo won his vampiress, Caste died a horrible death far away, and all was well for a time.
But then there was this ship... somebody called it The Labyrinth, which stuck. It was like the Pool, but smarter and more mobile, and since the Pool wasn't doing its job all that well, it became the next trap for Tenebrae.
Except, by then she's fallen into the Pool again and had all the vampire sucked out of her.
Say what?
Well, the Chaos Lords were kinda pissed and didn't want her to be their Unmaker anymore, as she was pretty much fail at being that. So, they engineered the removal of one of her three powers... vampirism... to make it easier to take her out of the picture, since she knew way too much by then.
So... the Labyrinth had stolen the soul of Diiroehn, a Lich-friend of Tene's and member of the infamous Cabal.
The mortal Tene, her pirate Leoxander, and a bunch of other ne'er-do-wells went off to rescue the Lich from its clutches. But there was a stowaway on board that terrible frigate, who'd snuck in on the chance he might catch up with his parents.
Yup, that was Lucien - but wait - his parents?
Turns out Tene had totally gotten knocked up that night in the Fortress with Leo, when reality was a little off (and OOC - a couple months before the vampire rules changed, yo - and the powers of retcon can kiss my ass).
The Pool had let Tene go - but ripped the tiny unborn Luc-fetus out of her and incubated him in its own weird belly. He was raised there by the Pool and Eldritch, and this other bastard named Kurgan... who we'll get back to, a little later on.
So, where was I...
Okay. So they're on the Labyrinth, and Leo is confronted by this thirteen year old kid with black eyes and white hair, and Lucien says "Oh hey Dad" and Leo is totally like "WTF" and sadly, Luc gets left behind again when they kick the Labyrinth's ass and all go home.
But now Leoxander knows that Lucien is his son. There might've been some kind of grand adventure for his retrieval, if Tene had not, like a total moron, decided to go off on her own to do just that.
She gets stuck in the Pool again, and this time she's missing a third of her power. So she's mortal - and stuck in there for like, months and months, and Leo thinks she'd dead, the clan goes to crap and... yeah. This is not a happy chapter in the annals of Cabal. Luc is still stuck in there too, and neither of 'em can really have any contact with each other or with Leo or anyone, outside the world of dreams...
And that is where this crazy, homidical, amazingly beautiful teenaged psychic named Caedan comes into it.
And that part of the story is just gonna have to wait.. for Chapter 2.
